Feudo Disisa – Monreale/Sicilia
SURPRISE, SURPRISE
I came upon Feudo Disisa entirely by chance, picking up the receiver to answer a gentleman who spoke with the same English accent as I do and after promising I would pass the message on to my former bosses I had thought it would be interesting to taste their wines.
Months later I was sitting at their booth at Vinitaly for a tasting and was totally enchanted. The whole Di Lorenzo family was there, very proud to share their story, and righteously so. Quite a surreal atmosphere, almost stepping back in the past yet tasting some very fresh, modern versions of native varietals. For over five generations, very well rooted into Sicilian history, this wine producer unlike a few very well known competitor producers, has not formally presented his wines to the German market, at least not until now. They have been busy satisfying the internal commercial market, and moreover that of North America.
Often sommeliers encounter new producers with misconception. It is sometimes recommended to blind taste so not to be influenced by a brand’s name and label.
Nonchalantly, I started to taste, sip after sip I totally neglected the spit bucket.
Nothing could have been more surprising and pleasurable than to be encompassed by the sensorial notes of these native varietal wines. If you close your eyes you may experience a mixture of freshness, and balsamic notes, complex but pure notes of the magical island of Sicily. Aromas and flavours of various spice, fruit and herbaceousness that are able to evolve in the bottle.

Feudo Disisa´s Estate is located in the province of Palermo's Monreale region, 400-500 meters above sea level. The Estate spans over 400 hectares and is located in the Alcamo and Monreale DOC regions.
Did you know that Sicily's earliest and oldest Chardonnay vineyard is located in Disisa? Unique in color, and bouquets that make it an exquisite wine thanks to the generosity of the soil, the climate, the intensity of the sun, and the dedication and passion of the family.
Chara - Insolia and Catarratto, Lu Bancu - 100% Catarratto, Terra delle Fate - Fiano, Grillo, and Chardonnay are all DOC Sicily for the whites.
Granmassenti - 100% Perricone, Roano- 100% Syrah, Nero d´Avola, are some examples of DOC reds. But we are not finished there.
